Awakening to your best self: Developing a nourishing morning routine

The morning is the most powerful time of the day. It is an opportunity for us to set our intentions and cultivate the kind of day we’d like to have. It can be challenging to build momentum in the morning for a positive day, but with practice, patience,  and dedication, it is possible. If you have been thinking of revamping your morning routine, check out these simple tips for how you can begin. Remember, start small, focus on consistency, and create a morning routine that feels personalized and nourishing to you, 

  1. Wake up at the same time every day, even on weekends, to establish a consistent sleep schedule. This can help to balance your energy throughout the day. 
  2. Start with a healthy breakfast to fuel your body and mind for the day ahead. 
  3. Plan out your day the night before, including any important tasks or appointments. Consider using a planner for this step. 
  4. Take a few minutes to meditate, practice mindfulness, or listen to positive affirmations to clear your mind and set a positive tone for the day. 
  5. Get some exercise, whether it's a short walk, yoga, or a full workout, to get your blood pumping and boost your mood. This can be as simple as a 5 minute stretch before heading out for the day. Remember, start simply so that you can build strong habits. 
  6. Spend some time doing something you enjoy like reading, journaling or listening to your favorite music before starting your work day. If you are feeling short on time in the morning, consider fitting one of these activities into your morning commute. 
  7. Avoid checking your phone or email first thing in the morning, as it can be overwhelming and set a negative tone for the day. Instead, take a moment to connect to yourself, your pets, and/or your loved ones before turning on electronics. 

It's also important to remember that everyone's morning routine will look different, and what works for one person may not work for another. The key is to find what works for you and stick to it. You will find that your days flow a lot more smoothly with a strong morning routine behind them. Believe in yourself and make changes that truly feel good! You deserve it.
